Buried in Presbyterian Cemetery, Snow Hill. 1 Governor• Whyte resigned on March 4, 1874. Governor Groome was elected and assumed office on the same day. Because of a family business disagreement. Gov- ernor Whyte changed the spelling of his surname to distInguish his branch of the family. ' Governor McLane resigned on March 27, 1885. Henry Lloyd, as President of the Senate, succeeded him as Acting Governor until January 1886, when the Legis- lature elected him to complete the remainder of Governor McLane' a term which expired In January 1888. |
