MARYLAND MANUAL 187 The Board of Architectural Review, established by Chapter 80, Acts of 1949, consists of seven members appointed for four-year terms by the Director of the Department of Public Improvements from lists of nominations submitted by the Baltimore Chapter, the Potomac Valley of Maryland Chapter, the Chesapeake Bay Chapter of the American Institute of Architects. (Code 1967, 1965 Repl. Vol., 1968 Supp., Art. 78A, sec. 23). The Board advises the Department of Public Improve- ments about specifications related to proper architectural treatment of proposed buildings. The Board also reviews all architectural designs and drawings and recommends any changes necessary to make the proposed buildings functional and practical for the use intended. ADVISORY COMMITTEE FOR STATE OFFICE BUILDING COMPLEX IN BALTIMORE Ex officio members: George R. Lewis, Director, Department of Public Improvements; Vladimir A. Luetkemeyer, Walter Sondheim, Sidney H. Tinley, Jr. The Governor appointed this ad hoc committee to review progress already made in the State Office Building complex, to advise on the retention of consultants for site planning, and to comment upon the overall performance standards pertaining to the expansion of these State facilities. The Superintendent, who is under the merit system, is in charge of the operation, maintenance and protection of the following State-owned buildings: Government House, the State House, Old Treasury Building, Court of Appeals, Hall of Records, Treasury Building, State Office Building, Treasury Building Annex, Stokes Building, Shaw House, the Income Tax Building, 93 College Avenue and the Power Plant. He is also responsible for the several buildings which are leased by the State, namely the Jeffrey Building on Francis Street, 50 State Circle, and the leased portion of the Executive Building in Annapolis. The responsibility for the upkeep of the grounds surrounding these buildings as well as the parking lots and the Stadium parking lot which has been acquired by the State, also lies with that of the Superintendent.
