Rubin Room 16, 7 Church Lane, Pikesville 21208 Telephone: 484-6464 The Maryland Police Training Commission was created by Chapter 286, Acts of 1966, to fulfill the need for improvement in the adminis- tration of law enforcement by raising the standards of training and education. The Commission consists of ten members of whom seven are non- appointive office holders. These include the President of the Maryland Chiefs of Police Association, the President of the Maryland Law En- forcement Officers, Inc., the Attorney General of the State of Mary- land, the Superintendent of the Maryland State Police, the Commis- sioner, Baltimore City Police Department, the President of the Univer- sity of Maryland and the Agent in charge of the Baltimore office of the Federal Bureau of Investigation. The Governor appoints three police officials of the State with the advice and consent of the Senate for three year terms. Each appointive member must be from different geographical areas of the State. The seven non-appointive members may be represented by alternates. The Commission is authorized to set minimum standards in both recruit and in-service training. All State, county, and incorporated municipal law enforcement agencies are required to meet these stand- ards. The Commission must also approve all training schools offering such training as to curriculum, facilities, equipment, and standards of operation and qualification of instructors. The Commission is also to encourage and promote educational courses in universities, colleges, and other educational institutions in the State (Code 1967, 1966 Repl. Vol., 1968 Supp., Art. 41, sec. 70A). |
