The hospital provides for the care of mentally ill patients from Baltimore City, zones 8, 9, 10, II, 12, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, and 34, and Allegany, Garrett, Washington, Frederick, Howard, Carroll and Montgomery counties. It is the facility for tuber- culous mentally ill patients from the entire State. The budget is predicated upon a population of 2,975 for the fiscal year 1967, and 3,000 for the fiscal year 1968. It is located on the grounds of the Spring Grove State Hospital. Construction was begun in June 1967, and it is expected to be completed in 1968. The Center provides a program of basic and applied interdis- ciplinary research in mental illness and mental retardation. It also coordinates research activities at the various State mental hospitals, and offers training in research for graduate and post-graduate stu- dents in psychiatry and behavioral sciences (Code 1957, 1964 Repl.
