The records formerly in the custody of the Land Office have now been transferred to the Hall of Records Building. The Hall of Records Commission serves as the official depository for the duplicate copies of subdivision plats sent to the Land Office as insurance against the loss of the originals. Randall Old Treasury Building, Annapolis 21404 Telephone: 268-0004 The Maryland Historical Trust was created by Chapter 620, Acts of 1961, to have perpetual existence. Its purpose is to preserve and maintain historical, aesthetic and cultural properties, buildings, fix- tures, and furnishings pertaining to the State of Maryland. The Trust, which is a corporate body, is composed of fifteen trus- tees of whom the Governor, the President of the Senate, and the Speaker of the House of Delegates, or their representatives; are ex officio members. The remaining trustees were originally appointed by the Governor as follows: three for one year; three for two years; three for three years; and three for four years. As their terms expired, their successors were elected by a vote of the trustees for four-year terms. The trustees serve without compensation, and elect one of their number as chairman. The trustees may also appoint a Director and such other persons as may be necessary to operate the Trust. The Trust is to make a report annually to the Governor and the General Assembly together with any recommendations to further the purpose of the Trust (Code 1957, 1966 Repl. Vol., Art. 41, sees. 181A-181K). The Maryland Historical Trust has initiated a three-year program by which it will select, purchase, and restore three or more historical buildings in Maryland. Buildings restored under this program may be resold with protective covenants to responsible buyers. This program will be operated as a revolving fund, for which the 1966 General Assembly appropriated $120,000.
