The first board for the examining and licensing of plumbers in
Maryland was established by Chapter 439, Acts of 1886, with juris-
diction limited to Baltimore City. The General Assembly established
the present Commission by Chapter 436, sec. 186, Acts of 1910. Its
jurisdiction includes all of the State, excepting Washington County.
The Board is composed of five members appointed by the Governor
for two-year terms. One member must be from Western Maryland,
one from Southern Maryland, one from the Eastern Shore, and two
from Baltimore. The Commission examines and certifies journeyman
and master plumbers. Applicants for a journeyman certificate must
have served at least four years apprenticeship. Applicants for master
certificate must have served at least two years as a journeyman. All
certificates must be renewed annually. Failure to do so results in the
automatic revocation of license. All applicants have the right to
review their examination papers upon written request to the Board.
All members of the Board must be certified master plumbers within
the State.

The Board of Physical Therapy Examiners, created by Chapter 906,
Acts of 1947, consists of five members, one appointed each year for a
five-year term from lists submitted by the Medical and Chirurgical
Faculty. The Board examines, licenses, and registers physical thera-
pists wishing to practice in Maryland (Code 1957, Art. 43, secs.
604-14).
