This agency was created in 1958 to operate and maintain the fifteen-
story State Office Building and the six-story State Roads Building,
first occupied in 1959. On July 1, 1962, the vacated Department of
Motor Vehicles Building on Guilford Avenue also became the respon-
sibility of this agency. Occupancy of this building is by newly formed
agencies and expanded divisions of existing agencies. The Superin-
tendent is responsible for facilities consisting of parking areas, heat-
ing and air conditioning plants, telephone communications, concession-
operated cafeteria, modern elevators, landscaped grounds, etc. The
three buildings house forty-three State agencies. The cost of operation
is partially borne by funds collected from Special Fund agencies (Acts
1969, chap. 685).

of 1959 as the successor to the Maryland State Planning Commission,
