Garrett County just four miles from Lonaconing. It opened in Decem-
ber 1957 with facilities for 25 boys. During fiscal 1960, the average
daily population was 23 boys.

Boys' Forestry Camp—Meadow Mountain

The third Boys' Forestry Camp opened in June 1968 at Grantsville
in Garrett County (Chapter 454, Acts of 1967). It has facilities for 26
boys. The average daily population during fiscal 1960 was 18 boys.

This institution was established by Chapter 392, Acts of 1870 as the
House of Reformation for Colored Boys. By Chapter 70, Acts of 1937,
when the property was purchased by the State, it became known as
the Cheltenham School for Boys. The present name was adopted by
Chapter 692, Acts of 1949. The school provides for the care and train-
ing of delinquent boys in the middle age group (chiefly 13 and 14
year old youths). During the fiscal year of 1960 it provided care for
527 boys committed to the school and 274 boys who were detained
there.
