The 'Commission on Interracial Problems and Relations was created
by the General Assembly of 1951 to supersede the Governor's Com-
mission on Problems Affecting the Negro Population. The Commis-
sion consists of nine members appointed by the Governor with the
advice and consent of the Senate for six-year terms so staggered that
three terms expire every two years. The Chairman of the Commis-
sion is designated by the Governor. The Executive Secretary of the
Commission is appointed by the Governor. The Commission makes
surveys and studies of problems affecting the Negro population of
the State and the betterment of interracial relations. The Commis-
sion submits an annual report to the Governor and General Assembly
together with recommendations, if any, for additional legislation
(Code 1957, Art. 49B, sees. 1-3; Acts 1959, chap. 201).
