a two-year professional course for the training of teachers. In that
year the course was lengthened to three years, and in 1934 it was
extended to four years. In addition to the four-year curriculum lead-
ing to the degree of Bachelor of Science in Education, the College also
offers a two-year junior college program. Those pursuing the full four-
year program pay no tuition if they promise to teach in the public
schools of Maryland for two years following their graduation. The
College enrollment for 1964-66 was 337.

The State Teachers College at Towson was established as the
Maryland State Normal School by the General Assembly of 1865.
The school was originally located in Baltimore and was moved to
Towson in 1916. In 1932 the normal school became a four-year
teachers' college. The curriculum includes courses in both junior
high school and elementary teaching leading to the degree of Bachelor
of Science in Education. The school also offers a two-year junior
college course. Students enrolling in the four-year curriculum for
prospective teachers pay no tuition if they promise to teach in the
public schools of Maryland following their graduation. The enroll-
ment of the College for the school year 1954-5B was 1,060.
