The Springfield State Hospital was established by the General As-
sembly of 1894 and opened for patients in 1896. The hospital provides
for the care of mentally ill white patients from Baltimore City, Balti-
more County and the counties of Western Maryland, although patients
from other areas may be admitted as necessary. The patient popula-
tion is approximately 3,115.

Expenditures, 1950 $2,425,166.84
Appropriation, 1951 . $2,664,079.00

SPRING GROVE STATE HOSPITAL

Spring Grove State Hospital was established in 1797. It provides
for the hospitalization of mentally ill white patients from Baltimore
City, Baltimore County and the counties of Southern Maryland, al-
though patients from other areas may be admitted as necessary. The
patient population is approximately 2,435.

Appropriation, 1951 $2,205,732.00

ROSEWOOD STATE TRAINING SCHOOL

Rosewood State Training School was established by the General
Assembly of 1888, and the first children admitted in 1889. The school
provides for the care and training of mentally retarded white children
from all parts of the State. The patient population is approximately
1,290.
