This school was established in 1883 as the Industrial School for
Girls. The school was purchased by the State in 1934 and the name
changed to the Maryland Training School for Colored Girls. The 1949
General Assembly authorized the adoption of the present name (Acts
1949, Ch. 314). The school provides for the care and education of
delinquent colored girls. During the fiscal year 1949, care was pro-
vided for a total of 151 girls committed to the school and 62 girls
who were detained at the institution.
