The Governor, with the consent of the Senate, appoints seven, who
with the Secretary of the State Board of Health, and the Commis-
sioner and Assistant Commissioner of Health of Baltimore City, con-
stitute, the Board.
It is the duty of any person, co-partnership or corporation now
licensed to carry on the business of Funeral Directing and Embalming
in the State of Maryland, to cause his, her, their or its name or names
to be registered with the State Board of Funeral Directors and
Embalmers of Maryland and to procure a license to carry on the
business of Funeral Directing and Embalming within the State, such
license to be renewed annually.
The laws generally deal with the qualifications and licensing of all
persons engaged and/or assisting in Funeral Directing and Embalm-
ing in the State of Maryland; the holding of examinations to deter-
mine such qualification, and provide penalties for violations of the
provisions relating to licenses and registration.
Special qualifications are required of Funeral Directors, their
assistants and employees concerning the care, preparation for burial,
burial or shipment of dead human bodies; the disinfection of clothing
and bedding of deceased persons who have died from an infectious or
contagious disease and the premises where he or she shall have died,
as well as the laws (general and local) relative to burials, burial per-
mits and the proper care, preparation for the burial and burial or ship-
ment of dead human bodies.
The law also makes provision for examination, of applicants to
practice Embalming in such subjects as anatomy, sanitation, disin-
fection, embalming (theoretical and practical), and the laws relating
to contagious, infectious and communicable diseases.
