DEPARTMENT OF RESEARCH AND EDUCATION
Chapter 508..Acts of 1941. '
The Department of Research and Education is hereby created to
exercise the present functions of the Chesapeake Biological Labora-
tory and the Maryland Weather Service, and to develop a compre-
hensive research and educational program covering all the natural
resources of 'the State. The supervision of the Department shall be
vested in a Commission of Research and Education consisting of five
members to be appointed by the Governor from among the citizens
of the State, each of whom shall have had training and experience in
scientific investigation and research, especially in the field of natural
resources. The members of the Commission shall select their own
Chairman.
The members of the Commission shall be appointed for terms of
five years form June 1, 1941, but the terms of the first members
appointed shall expire in one, two, three, four and five years, re-
spectively
The Commission shall appoint a competent Director of Research
and Education, who shall have special training and experience in
investigating problems in the field of natural resources and the
handling of educational matters, and be a graduate of an accredited
college The Commission may also appoint such assistants as may be
necessary, all personnel to be selected in accordance with the Merit
System law.
