The Act of 1929, Chapter 438, provides for an additional Coroner at
Large to have exclusive jurisdiction over deaths resulting from automobile
accidents.

Governor, with the consent of the Senate, appoints one from each Police
District and one at large from the city, for two years from the first Monday
in May. (Ch. 123, 1898).

Governor, with the consent of the Senate, appoints three for a term
of two years from the first Monday in May. Two shall be adherents of the
two leading political parties. (Ch. 591, 1902.) The secretary is elected by
the Board.

It is the duty of this Board to examine all applicants for appointment
to or promotion in the Police Force of Baltimore City, and to certify lists
to the Police Commissioner from which all appointments and promotions
are to be made. This is done by holding competitive examinations from time
to time as the eligible lists expire.
