the country was in the grasp of the canal-building craze. The canal
was operated in its first form for 90 years, until it was bought in 1919
by the Federal Government, which dredged it to 12 feet and made
it a sea-level channel. It is now a link in the inland coastal waterway
which extends, with a few gaps, from New York to the Texas Coast.
The formal opening of the Canal will take place with special exer-
cises early in March.
PEOPLE'S COURT COMMITTEE
A Committee appointed by the Governor to examine into and
make thorough investigation of the procedure and conditions now
surrounding the People's Court of Baltimore City, and to report
to the General Assembly of Maryland at its next regular Session,
January, 1939, together with recommendations and proposed legisla-
tion to carry into effect the result of their findings.

of conditions pertaining to Weights and Measures in Maryland, and
to make a report with recommendations, to the Governor and General
