no one interested in any way in. the manufacture or sale of alcoholic
beverages being eligible for appointment on the committee, to make
a careful investigation and study of said laws and regulations, includ-
ing license fees and taxes, and to report to the Governor and the
General Assembly on or before January 15, 1939, with such recommen-
dations as the Committee might deem desirable, with drafts of pro-
posed legislation.

WORK OF WIDENING AND DEEPENING THE CHESAPEAKE
AND DELAWARE CANAL NEARING COMPLETION

Work of widening and deepening the Chesapeake Canal, started
over two years ago, has about been completed This feat will connect
up the Delaware and Chesapeake Bays for ocean going vessels, and will
be of vast importance in ease of war. The actual cost to the Federal
Government for the improvement has been about $13,000,000.
It will also be of great benefit to commerce between Baltimore,
Philadelphia and various other points. It has been estimated nearly
