resumed his practice in which he has been engaged to the
present time.
On February 1, 1920, Mr. Gorfine married Miss Lillian
Miller, a childhood sweetheart. Mrs. Gorfine is now de-
ceased. There are two children, Lewis W. and Charlotte.
In November, 1930, Mr. Gorfine was elected to the House
of Delegates of the General Assembly of Maryland, repre-
senting the Fourth Legislative District of Baltimore City.
At that time he served on the Judiciary Committee. In
November, 1934, he was again elected to the House of Dele-
gates of the General Assembly of Maryland representing
the same Legislative District, and in January, 1935, he was
elected Speaker of the Maryland House of Delegates. He
was also elected Speaker for the two Special Sessions in
1936, the Regular Session in 1937, and the Special Session
in 1937.
Mr. Gorfine is a Past Master of St. John's Lodge No. 34
of the Masonic Fraternal Order, and was an officer of the
Grand Lodge of Masons of Maryland by having been ap-
pointed by the Grand Master, Junior Grand Steward of the
Grand Lodge. He is also a member of the Odd Fellows,
Knights of Pythias, Yedz Grotto, American Legion, the
Woodholme Country Club, the Mercantile Club of Baltimore
City, and many other clubs and organizations.
In 1936 Mr. Gorfine was made Chairman of the Roosevelt
Electors Committee of the State of Maryland during the
Roosevelt Presidential Campaign.
By an act of the 1936 Legislature, he was made a member
of the Commission on Interstate Compacts, which Commis-
sion is directed to co...operate with similar commissions of
other States in the Union in an effort to bring about uni-
formity in the laws of the various states, particularly with
respect to criminal law and procedure.
Mr. Gorfine is very active in civic and religious affairs
throughout the entire State of Maryland, and has held many
important positions.

William Sidney Gordy, Jr., was born December 21st, 1873,
at Salisbury, Maryland. His father was the late William
Sidney Gordy, who for many years was connected with the
business interests of Salisbury, and was a son of Samuel
Gordy, one of the early settlers and merchants of this city.
His mother, who is also deceased, was before her marriage,
