MARYLAND MANUAL. 29 Board consists of 30 members. Governor appoints to fill vacanices only. No term. (Ch. 247, 1867, and Ch. 797, 1916.) All scholarships are free to deaf children of the State. The aim of the school is to make of deaf children self-supporting members of society. Besides the regular course of study, including high school branches, every boy at graduation has become master of some trade, such as Printing, Cabinet-making, Shoemaking, Tailoring, etc., while the girls will have completed a course in Domestic Science and Household Arts. Vocational Training Department is supplied with mod- ern equipment. A new trades building and a new academic building have recently been erected. In connection with speech and lip-reading as taught to all children, vocal exercises, with aid of the piano, are given to encourage the speech habit, develop the vocal organs and aid in correct enunciation and pitch of voice. A Radioear, with bone conduction receivers, the latest electri- cal appliance for aiding the hard of hearing, has been installed. A homelike atmosphere prevails. The Governor, without the consent of the Senate, appoints nine members of the Board of Managers, three every two years for a term of six years. The Board of Managers of the Maryland Training School for Boys shall consist of the Governor Ex-Officio, State Comptroller and State Treasurer for the time being and nine members to be ap- pointed by the Governor. (Chap. 300, 1918.) The school receives white boys on commitment of any Court, Ju- venile Court, or Justice of the Peace. School classes are available through the ninth grade and Practical Arts Courses in agricultural and industrial lines. Related subjects classes are included in the practical arts courses.
