MARYLAND MANUAL 57

From 1919 to 1030, inclusive, 212,642 pieces of game have been
liberated in the covers for propagation purposes

The first public shooting ground in Maryland was opened on November
10, 1928, on a 600 acre tract of land bordering on the line between
Washington and Allegany Counties

in 1926, all fish pots and dams were removed from the Potomac River
and its tributaries, thereby giving the fish free access up and down the
stream at all times.

The Division, in March, 1927, thru the co operation of the National
Association of Audubon Societies and the Board of Education of Mary
land placed a lecturer to their forces to visit all the public schools in
Maryland and lecture to the pupils on the necessity of conservation
This action met with such hearty approval that in October, 1929, the
second lecturer was engaged. This work has proven very successful and
wonderful results have been obtained. In addition to the lectures in
the schools, these men also lecture to parent-teacher associations and
clubs

The Division publishes quarterly the "Maryland Conservationist",
which goes into every state in the Union) all the provinces of Canada, as
well as some of the European countries.

In 1925, the Department published a bulletin on the "Muskrat In-
dustry of Maryland", which has advertised Maryland not only on this
continent but throughout the European countries.

In 1930, thru the co operation of the State Board of Education, a
book entitled "Some Birds of Maryland", containing thirty two illus
trations was placed in the hands of each teacher of the public schools
of the counties to be used as a textbook for educating the pupils to the
necessity of the conservation of bird life.

Important bulletins are issued and released thru the press from time
to time on the work being done by the State Game Division.
