WITNESSES.
335. The county commissioners of said county shall levy a
sufficient sum, in advance, to pay State's witnesses in said county
promptly at the close of each term of the Circuit Court, '
336. The collector of said county shall, whenever any person
shall present to him an order from the clerk of the Circuit Court
for his attendance as a witness, pay to such person or his order
the amount due him, after deducting therefrom all charges
the collector may have against such witness.

337. The county commissioners of said county shall set apart
and designate suitable apartments in the jail of said county, to
be known and denominated as the work-house of Washington
county, and to be kept by the sheriff of said county, under the
superintendence and control of the county commissioners.
338. Whenever any person shall become liable to be committed
to the work-house, he shall be committed to the custody of the
sheriff of said county, to be confined in said apartments for the
time specified in the commitment, on low and coarse diet and at
hard labor.

339. Upon complaint made to any justice of the peace for said
county, that any person from his disorderly conduct gives dis-
turbance to a neighborhood, and is likely to become changeable
to the county, the said justice, if upon hearing the party he
shall judge the complaint to be well founded, may commit such
disorderly person to the said work-house for any time not exceed-
ing three months, unless he shall find security, at the discretion
of the justice, in any sum not exceeding thirty dollars, for his
good behavior during the space of six months.
340. Any justice of the peace of said county, and any person
authorized and appointed by such justice, may apprehend or
cause to be apprehended and committed to said work-house any
vagrants, vagabonds, beggars, and other idle and dissolute and
disorderly persons found loitering or residing in said county, who
follow no labor, trade, occupation or business, and who have no
visible means of subsistence, there to be kept at hard labor for
any time not exceeding three months
