and the diary and oath, if necessary, of the teacher of said
school, shall be evidence of the attendance of such pupil.
190. Any parent or guardian may appeal from the action of
the trustees levying such tax, after having paid the same to the
board of commissioners of primary schools, who shall hear and
determine such appeal, and award what amount, if any, shall be
reimbursed by the trustees.

191. If any parent or guardian, chargeable therewith, shall
refuse or neglect to pay to the trustees of said school the amount
of the tax charged to him, at the expiration of each month, the
trustees shall at the end of the fiscal year place the bills for said
taxes in the hands of the collector of said school district, who
shall collect the same, and pay the amount collected to the trus-
tees within sixty days after the accounts are placed in his hands
for collection; and if the collector of county taxes be ex-officio
collector of said district, the bond of said collector shall be
answerable for the amount of said bills.
192. The trustees of the districts number forty-eight and num-
ber fifty-one may receive into the schools in said districts any
child who may not live in said districts, if they think the interests
of the schools will not be prejudiced thereby.
193. The trustees of district number fifty-one may regulate
and fix the tuition money for the admission of pupils, having
^due regard to the ability of parents or guardians, and when any
parent or guardian is unable to pay for the education of his chil-
dren, may admit them free of charge; and they shall also admit
free of charge all children who have no means of educating
themselves and are without parents or guardians.
SHERIFF.
194. The sheriff of Anne Arundel county shall be allowed for
keeping and boarding each prisoner committed to the jail of
said county for breach of the peace, or for any criminal offence,
or otherwise, and for keeping and boarding any runaway negro
ornegro slave committed to the jail by any citizen of this State,
the sum of forty cents per day, to be levied and collected accord-
ing to law.
