7. They may use a common seal, and the same if necessary
may change and alter.
§. They shall meet at the alms-house in said county on the
first week in January, May, August and November, or oftener
if necessary, and make by a majority of votes all such rules and
by-laws as they may think necessary for the direction, govern-
ment and support of said alms-house.
9. They shall, at their annual meeting in November, appoint
an overseer of said alms-house, and may appoint a physician
and such other agents and laborers as they may think proper;
and the said overseer shall enter upon the discharge of his
duties on the first day of January then next ensuing.
10. They shall require the said overseer to give bond with se-
curity by them approved, and payable to them, in the penalty
of five hundred dollars for the faithful performance of the duties
of his office.
11. They may allow said overseer a sum not exceeding two
hundred dollars per annum, and so pro rata during his continu-
ance in office, as a compensation for his services.
12. They may remove said overseer at their pleasure and ap-
point another in his place.
13. They shall, at their annual meeting in May, appoint one
of their own body clerk to the trustees for the poor, whose duty
it shall be to keep their accounts and prepare all necessary state-
ments for settlement with the county commissioners, and for
whose compensation the said commissioners may allow such sum
as they may think proper.
14. They shall dispose of all products arising from the culti-
vation of the land belonging to said alms-house over and above
what may be necessary for the maintenance of the inmates
thereof, and the amount of money arising from such sales, after
paying all the expenses of said alms-house and farm, shall an-
nually, on the first Tuesday of June, be returned on oath and
paid over to the commissioners of said county; and in case the
products of said farm shall be insufficient for the maintenance
of the inmates of said alms-house, the county commissioners
