127. If the patrol shall have reason to suspect that any run-
away negro or slave is concealed or -harbored in any dwelling or
out-house of any negro within their search, they shall demand
of the owner or occupant of such house to»be admitted into the
same for the purpose of search, and if the owner or occupant
shall refuse to suffer such entry and search, they may use .all
necessary force to effect the same, and, in any action of trespass
or other suit brought by a-ny owner or occupant for any entry
made in virtue of this section, the defendant may, on the general
issue plea, have liberty to give the special matter in evidence.
128. If any person named in such requisition or patrol, on
being duly notified and summoned by such justice of the peace,
or by his authority, shall neglect or refuse to obey the same, he
shall be subject to a fine not exceeding five dollars nor less than
fifty cents, to be recovered as small debts, by summons va the
name of the State, and to be applied to the use of the commis-
sioners of the school fund.
129. The clerk of the Circuit Court for Anne Arundel county
shall not grant license to any free negro to sell merchandise
therein except by the special order of the Circuit Court, to be
passed on the recommendation of not less than twelve respect-
able freeholders in the neighborhood in which he, proposes to
carry on his business, and no license to any free negro shall au-
thorize the sale of ardent spirits.
130. The clerk of the Circuit Court aforesaid, shall not grant
a license for any purpose of trade to any white person who is in
partnership with any free negro, nor shall- any white person em-
ploy any free negro as a clerk in any mercantile business under
a penalty of five hundred dollars for each offence: said penalty
to be recovered as other fines and forfeitures are under the laws
of this State.
ORPHANS' COUBT.
131. Each judge of the Orphans' Court of Anne Arundel
county shall receive the sum of three dollars for every day's
attendance.
132. The regular terms of the Orphans' Court shall be held on
the second Tuesday of every month of February, April, June,
August, October, and December, and by its adjournment, if neces-
