718 PKINCB GEORGE'S COUNTY. [ART. 16.

23. If any person shall be sued or prosecuted for any thing
done in pursuance of this law, or any thing therein contained,
he may plead the general issue and give the special matter in
evidence; and if upon trial a verdict shall be found for de-
fendant, or the plaintiff be non-suit or discontinue, the defend-
ant shall recover treble costs, and if the plaintiff shall be un-
able to pay them, they shall, unless the plaintiff shall give secu-
rity for the costs to be approved by the court, be paid by the
attorney who brought the suit.

BAILIFFS.

24. The bailiffs to the Circuit Court for said county shall be
entitled to one dollar a day for each day they shall attend said
court, and if they reside more than six miles from the court, to
ten cents a mile for every mile over six they shall travel going
to said court; but no bailiff shall receive more than one dollar
for mileage for any one day.

25. The county commiBBioners of aaid county shall annually
levy a sum of money sufficient to pay said bailiffs, and the sum
so levied, when collected, shall be deposited in the Planters
Bank of Prince George's county, and a certificate signed by
the clerk of the Circuit Court, and expressing the number of
days any bailiff may have served and the sum due for such
services, shall be sufficient authority to the cashier of said
bank to pay the amount therein specified; and the balance, if
any, remaining at the end of the year shall be applied by the
justice to the use of the county.

BLADENSBURQ.

26. The citizens of the village of Bladensburg, in Prince
George's county, are a body corporate, hy the name of " President
and Commissioners of the Village of Bladensburg," and by that
name may sue and be sued, and may have and use a common seal.

27. The limits of Bladensburg shall be as described on a plat
thereof filed among the proceedings of the commissioners of said
village. *

28. All free white male citizens of said village above twenty-
one years of age, who shall have resided in said village four
months, and twelve months in this State, next preceding the
