70 ^ ANNE ARUNDEL COUNTY. [ART. 2.

110. The fees of constables in Anne Arundel county shall be
as follows, to wit: for serving a summons for debt under fifty
dollars and return, forty cents: for serving summons for debt
over fifty dollars and return, fifty cents; for serving State's
warrant and return, fifty cents; for serving fieri facias and
return, forty cents; for inflicting stripes agreeably to a judg-
ment of a justice of the peace, fifty cents; for delivering a per-
son committed over to the jailer, one dollar; for dispersing
tumultuous meetings of negroes, such sum as the county com-
missioners of. said county may think proper, not exceeding
twentyfive dollars in any one year; for taking runaways, six
dollars; for levying fieri facias and return, twenty cents; for
summoning jury of inquest, for each person summoned, twelve
and a half cents; for serving an attachment for contempt, fifty
cents; for levying distress for rent, one dollar and twenty-five
cents, for which cost the tenant shall in all cases be liable to the
landlord; for summoning appraisers on distress for rent, for each
appraiser summoned, twenty cents; for swearing appraisers,
each, ten cents.

111. There shall be paid to each of the constables in said
county, annually, the sum of twenty-five dollars in consideration
of the services •which they are required to render, for which no
fees of office are now fixed by law, .and the commissioners of the
county shall levy the same when they levy for the other ex-
penses of the county; but the said commissioners may retain
and refuse to pay the same in any case in which it shall appear
.to them that the constable, otherwise entitled to receive the
same, has been negligent or remiss in the performance of his
duties as such.

LUMBER INSPECTORS.

112. The inspector of lumber at the city of Annapolis shall
have power to appoint a deputy, who shall hold his office during
the pleasure of the principal inspector, and no longer, and
shall at the time of his appointment take the oath required by
law.

118. The Governor shall, by and with the advice and consent
of the Senate, biennially appoint an inspector of lumber at
Bristol, in Anne Arundel county, whose duty it shall be to inspect
all lumber that shall be brought to said place for sale, and who
shall b® entitled to the same compensation as the inspectors of
lumber in the city of Baltimore.
