628 HABPORD COUNTY. [ART. 12.

for any sheep killed or injured by dogs unless the owner shall
make affidavit, to be filed with the commissioners, that such
sheep were killed or injured by dogs, and that he has no means
of recovering the value of his sheep from the owner of the dog
that killed or injured them; nor shall the commissioners pay for
auch sheep out of any other fund than the residue of the dog tax
hereby imposed, after deducting the constables' fees for returning
aaid lists, collecting said tax and killing dogs; and every constable
shall be allowed twenty-five cents for each dog or bitch killed by
him under the provisions of the preceding sections.

133*. Any surplus that may remain on hand of the said tax
on the first day of January in any year, after deducting all
charges hereinbefore provided for, and all sums paid for sheep
killed or injured by dogs, shall be paid by the county commis-
sioners to the treaanrer of the board of school commissioners
of Harford county, for the use of public schools.

SHEKIIT.

184. The sheriff of Harford county shall reside in the jail of
said county, or keep a jailer resident therein, (unless the county
commissioners shall be of opinion that the jail is not in a com-
fortable condition for such residence,) under the penalty of two
dollars for every day he shall neglect or refuse so to do.

185. He shall be entitled to thirty cents per day for boarding
each prisoner confined in said jail.

136. He shall be entitled to two dollars a day for each day he
shall attend the sittings of the Circuit Court.

STATE'S ATTORNEY.

137. In all criminal cases removed from any Circuit Court to
the Circuit Court fbr Harford county, and tried, the county com-
missioners for Harford county may allow to the State's Attorney
for said county, in addition to the sum allowed by law, such com-
pensation, not to exceed the sum of thirty dollars for any one
case, as they may deem just and proper, to be levied by the
county commissioners of the county from which such cause was
removed, at their:next annual levy.
