ment of said schools, setting forth the course of studies to be
observed, the character and kind of books to be used, and such
other rules as they may think proper; and the register of said
board shall furnish each teacher a copy of said. rules and regu-
lations, and the said board shall withhold payment from any
teacher who wilfully refuses or neglects to observe the same.

62*. On or before the levy is made for county purposes, the
said board of commissioners shall report to the county commis-
sioners of Calvert county the amount necessary in their judgment,
when added to the school fund derived from the State, to make
the salary of each teacher in the respective schools amount to
three hundred dollars, and also the amount necessary for erecting
and furnishing school houses and other incidental expenses, all
of which shall be levied by the said county commissioners; Pro-
vided, that the amount estimated to be levied for the purpose
aforesaid shall in no one year exceed ten cents on the one hun-
dred dollars.

63*. The county commissioners of said county shall have col-
lected and deposited annually in the Farmers' Bank of Maryland
the amount required to be levied by the provisions of the pre-
ceding section; and the Treasurer of the State, upon the warrant
of the Comptroller, shall likewise annually deposit in said bank
all sums of money applicable to the school fund for said county,
together with the academy fund which now stands untransferred
to the use of said county school fund, and which accrued in the
year eighteen hundred and fifty-five; all of which said sums of
money shall be subject to the written order of the president of
the said board of commissioners, countersigned by the register.

64*. There shall be in each school district five trustees annually
elected by the white male inhabitants of the district, above the
age of twenty-one years; the said trustees shall be residents of
the district, and shall hold their office one year and until their
successors are qualified; the said election shall be held at such
times as shall be designated by the commissioners of the district,
and said commissioners shall give notice to the residents of the
district, by advertisement set up at some public place at least ton
days preceding the election, of the time and place o'f holding the
same; and if for any reasoq an election shall not be held on the
day notified, the commissioners shall give further notice from
time to time until an election is effected.
