EEGISTEB, or WILLS.

52. The register of wills of Calvert county shall be entitled to
forty dollars a year for his services as clerk to the Orphans'
Court of said county, acting as commissioners of the school fund,
to be paid by the said court out of the school fund.

ROADS.

53. Each supervisor of roads in Calvert county shall, whenever
it is necessary, call upon all persons residing in the district of
which he is supervisor for hands, ploughs, carts, and horses, giving
notice at least one week in advance of the day on which the
same will be wanted, and the place.

54. No supervisor shall work upon any road with less than six
nor more than twelve hands, and each supervisor shall give a cer-
tificate for the amount due each laborer who may have been em-
ployed whenever he shall be required to. do so, and shall make
returns semi-annually, under oath, to the county commissioners,
in writing, of the number of hands employed on each particular
day, specifying the sex and age, if slaves, and to whom belong-
ing, and the number of horses, ploughs, and carts, and to whom
the same belong.

55. The county commissioners shall give to each person named
in such certificate, or the master of any slave therein named, a
certificate for such amount as may appear from the returns and
certificates of the supervisors to be due to him, and the collector
shall receive such certificate in payment of the county taxes of
the holder.

56. The county commissioners for said county may authorize
the supervisors to contract for any wood, timber or other mate-
rial necessary to keep the roads in repair.

57. The following sums shall be allowed and paid by the super-
visors of roads in Calvert county for work and labor upon the
said roads, to wit: for each good male hand above the age of
fourteen years, the sum of seventy-five cents per day; for each
good female band above the age of fifteen years, fifty cents per
day; for each two horse plough, one dollar per day; for each cart
and team, one dollar and fifty cents per day.
