hogsheads to be weighed, and direct such lessee to mark the
same on the head and bilge, with the name of the warehouse,
the tare of the hogshead, and quantity of net tobacco therein
contained, and also to mark on the head of the hogshead, with
marking irons, the initials of the name of the owner and the
number of hogsheads then. inspected.

511*. Every inspector shall, whenever any tobacco shall be
offered for inspection, before inspecting the same, inquire and
satisfy himself in what State or Territory such tobacco was
grown, and if he has doubts respecting the origin of such to-
bacco, he shall examine any person offering to give evidence of
the fact on oath, and upon his being satisfied thereof, and not
before, he shall inspect the same, and enter on his inspection
book the name of the State or Territory where such tobacco
was grown, and shall certify the same to the lessee of the ware-
house in which the same shall be deposited or stored, and the
said lessee shall specify the same in all notes and manifests which
he may issue for such tobacco; and if such tobacco be not the
growth of this State, he shall cause the name of the State or
Territory where the same has been grown to be branded with a
hot iron by the said lessee on every hogshead; and any in-
spector or lessee failing to comply with any of the provisions of
this section shall, for each offence, forfeit the sum of one hundred
dollars, to be recovered by indictment in the Criminal Court of
Baltimore, one-half to the informer, and the other half to the
State for the benefit of the tobacco fund.

512*. Any hogshead of tobacco which shall be offered to any
inspector as Maryland tobacco, for the purpose of being branded
as such, which was not raised, cured and packed in the State,
shall be forfeited by the person offering the same, and the lessee
of the warehouse in which the same may be stored shall sell the
same after thirty days' notice, and pay the proceeds to the Trea-
surer of the State for the benefit of the tobacco fund.

513*. Any person who may feel aggrieved by the decision of
the inspector under the preceding section may complain in writ-
ing to the Criminal Court of Baltimore, and the said court shall
immediately hear and determine the same, and if the court shall
decide that the tobacco was the growth of this State, then the
tobacco, if not sold, or, if sold, the net proceeds thereof, shall be
immediately restored to the owner; but if the court shall decide
against the party claiming, he shall pay all costs.
