proceed to rent out the said warehouses to some fit or proper'
person.

498*. Each lessee under the provisions of the preceding sec-
tion shall give bond to the State of Maryland in a penalty to bo
prescribed and with security to be approved by the said com-
missioners, conditioned for the punctual quarterly payment
of the rent agreed upon to the Treasurer of Maryland, and the
due and faithful performance of all the duties upon him by law
imposed as such lessee; and the said bond shall be recorded in
the office of the clerk of the Superior Court of Baltimore citv;

each bond shall not be less than fifty thousand dollars.

499*. It shall further be the duty of the tobacco commissioners
to oversee all the tobacco inspectors, and see that they faith-
fully perform the duties of their respective offices, and on failure
on the part of any inspector to perform such duties, or in case
of gross official misconduct on the part of any inspector, to
report him to the Governor, who shall immediately remove
him; the said commissioners shall also have a general superin-
tendence of the tobacco warehouses and wharves of the State,
and may have the same repaired when in their judgment it
may be necessary, and may, in their discretion, purchase the
wharf adjoining the State wharf at the foot of Conway street,
so as to add sixty-eight feet to the said State wharf, and erect a
pier thereto; and if said commissioners be able to purchase said
wharf and erect a pier thereto, on such terms as they may deem
reasonable and fair, they are hereby authorized to draw upon
the Treasurer, on the warrant of the Comptroller, for such sums,
in such instalments, chargeable to the tobacco fund, as may be
agreed upon, for the entire liquidation of said purchase money;

and shall annually report to the Comptroller a full and detailed
account of all their proceedings, setting forth therein the name
of the lessee of each warehouse and the amount of the rent
agreed upon, and the name of the sureties given; and the Comp-
troller shall order suit upon the bond of any lessee whose rent
shall at any time be in arrear and unpaid for the space of ninety
days.

500*. No one person, company or firm shall be lessee of more
than one tobacco warehouse, and the lessee of each warehouse
shall be entitled to all the fees, emoluments and profits arising
from the inspection of tobacco as hereinafter provided, and
shall be subject to all the costs and expenses thereof, except the
