ARTICLE VIII.
Armories.
SEC. 1. The Governor, by and with the advice and consent of
the Senate, shall biennially appoint an Armorer at Frederick and
an Armorer at Baston, to take charge of and keep in repair and
fit for use, all public arms and accoutrements in the armories
at those places respectively.
2. Each of said Armorers, before he proceeds to the execution
of his duties, shall give bond to the State of Maryland with secu-
rity to be approved by the Governor, the Armorer at Easton in
the penalty of two thousand dollars and the Armorer at Frede-
rick in the penalty of one thousand dollars, and conditioned for
the faithful discharge of his duties.
3. Each Armorer shall, on or before the first day of October
annually, report to the Adjutant General the actual state of the
armory under, his control, designating in such report the number
of arms and accoutrements, and the fitness or unfitness of any
portion of them for service, and also the quantity of the different
materials of war, with the quality of the same.
4. Whenever any arms or accoutrements, or other articles
deposited in the armories as public property, shall be removed
therefrom, the Armorer shall immediately report the same to
the Adjutant General, stating the purposes for which they were
so removed and the authority under which he acted.
5. The Quarter Master General and Brigade and Regimental
Quarter Masters, whenever they have reason to believe that any
of the public arms are not properly preserved or have fallen into
the possession of those who have no right to retain the same, or
that they may in any manner be lost to the State, shall cause
any such arms to be seized and transported to the nearest State
armory, and any militia officer having knowledge of any arms
BO situated, shall immediately report the same to one of said
Quarter Masters.
