UNITED STATES SENATORS.
73. The Senators chosen to represent this State in the Senate
of the United States, shall be elected by the joint ballot of both
branches of the Legislature—and the person qualified as the
Constitution of the United States directs, having a majority of
votes of all the attending members in both branches of the Legis-
lature, shall be declared duly elected.
74. One of the Senators shall be always an inhabitant of the
Eastern, and the other of the "Western Shore.
75. The commission of such Senator shall be granted and exe-
cuted in the form and manner heretofore usually practised.
REPRESENTATIVES IN CONGRESS.
76. The election of Representatives of this State in the Con
gress of the United States, shall be on the same day as the elec-
tion for members of the General Assembly of this State, unless
there should be a special meeting of Congress called by the Presi-
dent of the United States to be holden previous to such day, and
after the expiration of the term of service of said Representa-
tives; in which event the Governor shall, by proclamation, direct
such election to be held on a day therein named by him.
77. The proclamation of the Governor, mentioned in the pre-
ceding section, shall require at least twenty days notice of the
election to be given by the sheriffs of the respective counties and
the city of Baltimore.
78. If a vacancy should occur by death, resignation, or other-
wise, at such a period as to make it necessary that a Represent-
ative or Representatives in Congress from this State, should be
chosen before the regular time for such election, the Governor
shall, by proclamation, direct that a special election be held to
fill said vacancy; which proclamation shall require at least
twenty days' notice of such election to be given by the sheriffs
of the respective counties or city of Baltimore, composing the
Congressional district in which such vacancy may exist.
79. This State shall be divided into six districts, for the choos-
ing of six Representatives in the Congress of the United States,
which shall be numbered from one to six.
