elections are held on the same day, the sheriff shall not be
allowed more than twelve dollars for such elections.

BETTING ON ELECTIONS.

46. No person shall make any bet or wager on the result of any
election to take place in this State.

47. Any person Offending against the last preceding section,
shall be liable to indictment in the Circuit Courts, if the offence
be committed in any county, or in the Criminal Court of Balti-
more, if the offence be committed in Baltimore; and on con-
viction, shall be fined not less than fifty nor more than five
hundred dollars, to be paid to the State for the use of the School
Fund.

48. Every deposit of money in any part of the State, as a wager
or bet upon elections in this State or elsewhere, shall be forfeited
and paid over to the county commissioners of the county where
deposited for the use of the county; and if deposited in the city
of Baltimore, to the mayor and city council.

SPECIAL ELECTIONS.

49. Warrants for all special elections shall be issued to the
sheriff of the county or city where the election is to be held, who
shall appoint a day for the holding of the same, and shall give at
least ten days' notice thereof, exclusive of the day of publication
and day of election, by advertisements set up at the most public
places within each district of the county, and by advertisements
in two newspapers of general circulation in such county. In the
city of Baltimore three weeks' previous notice shall be given in
the manner herein prescribed of all special elections, whether for
Federal, State or municipal officers.

50. The sheriff shall also serve a copy of the said warrant,
together with a notice of the day appointed for holding said
election, on each of the judges in each district or precinct, at
least three days before the day appointed for holding such
election, under the penalty of ten dollars for each neglect.

51. Such election shall be held within fifteen days after the
warrant shall be received by the sheriff; except in the city of
Baltimore, where twenty-five days shall elapse between the
