152. If any negro or mulatto, whether free or slave, shall get
any white woman with child, upon conviction thereof in the
court of the county or city having criminal jurisdiction either
where such child was begotten or born, shall be sold and trans-
ported beyond the limits of this State as a slave for life.

PASSES TO NEGROES.

153. If any person other than the clerks or registers of the
several counties, and the city of Baltimore, shall give or grant
any certificate of freedom to any negro, he shall, on conviction,
forfeit and pay not exceeding five hundred dollars for each
offence, to be applied to the use of the county or city where such
person resides.

154. If any free negro who has obtained a certificate of his
freedom from any clerk or register, shall give or sell such certi-
ficate to any slave, by which means such slave may be enabled
to abscond from his master or owner, such free negro so offend-
ing shall, on conviction, be fined not exceeding three hundred
dollars, one-half to the use of the master or owner of such ab-
sconding slave, the other half to the use of the county; and in
case the said fine shall not be paid within thirty days, then the
court may adjudge such free negro to be sold at public vendue,
for such term as the court may determine, not exceeding seven
years; and the money arising from such sale shall be paid to the
owner of such absconding slave.

PERJURY.

155. An oath or affirmation if made wilfully and falsely in any
of the following cases, shall be deemed perjury: first, in all cases
where false swearing would be perjury at common law; secondly,
in all affidavits required by law to be taken; thirdly, all affida-
vits to accounts or claims made for the purpose of inducing any
court or officer to pass such accounts or claims; fourthly, all affi-
davits required to be made to reports and returns made to the
General Assembly or any officer of the government.

1516. Any person who shall procure another to make a false
oath or affirmation in any of the cases embraced in the preced-
ing section, shall be deemed guilty of subornation of perjury.
