that instead of the words " any subject," they
used the words " any free person, servant, apprentice,
or slave," and added the offence of cutting
off the nose or lip.  The punishment was
also the same, to wit:  death, as in cases of felony,
without benefit of clergy; but with a power
in the court to change it to being adjudged to
serve and labour on the roads.  See on this subject
the act of 1809, Ch. 138, Sec's 4 and 5.

138, Sec. 5.
