CHAP. 35. There is nothing to shew that this
statute extended to the province, and the subject
appears to have been taken up at an early period
by the assembly.
The act of 1640, Ch. 7. directed the publication
of the banns, or oath and caution entered, that neither
party was ward, &c, or within the forbidden
degrees.
The act of 1676, Ch. 6. directed the publication
of the banns or licence, from the proprietor or his
Lt. General.
There are also several propositions in the council
proceedings in 1698 and 1699, respecting marriage
licences and the acts of the province.
