CHAP. 4. THis statute did not extend to the
province, but the provisions which it contained
were nearly similar to those in the act of 1715,
Ch. 28, for taking special bail in the several counties,
&c. except the 4th section of the statute
which made it felony for any person to be bail in
another's name. There had been acts of assembly
respecting bail in 1696, 1676, 1674 and 1663.
CHAP. 8. Although there were a few cases of
prosecutions for robbery on the highway, the evils
stated in the preamble to this statute did not exist
in the province, and the statute never extended
thereto.
CHAP. 21. This statute does not appear to
have been practised under in the province, but
writs have been issued in every case, so that a defendant
has been returned, taken, on the first writ,
and " not found" on the second, in case of his
having given bail to the first. |
