980 JOURNAL OF PROCEEDINGS [Mar. 20,

An Act to repeal section 17, of Article 53, of the Code of
Public General Laws, entitled "Landlord and Tenant," ex-
empting certain articles from distress for rent and to re-enact
the same so as to read as follows.

An Act to declare the sanction of the General Assembly of
Maryland to the bequest of Catharine Morton, late of Calvert
county, deceased, to the Vestry of St. Paul's Parish in said
county.

An Act to repeal and re-enact with amendments section
612, of Article 4, of the Code of Public Local Laws entitled
"City of Baltimore," and relating to the selection of tales-
men for the several courts of said city.

An Act to appropriate the sums of money therein men-
tioned to pay the claims of Augustus Gassaway and R. Vin-
ton Clay ton, assignees of George Earle, Bartlett, Robbins
and Company and others.

An Act to repeal section 619, of Article 4, of the Public
Local Laws, entitled, "City of Baltimore," sub-title "Jus-
tices of the Peace and Constables," and to re-enact the same
so as to read as follows.

Which was read.

Mr. Bond, of Calvert, Chairman of the Committee on Col-
ored Population, reported unfavorably

The bill entitled an Act to incorporate and establish a
House of Refuge for male negroes, or persons of color of the
State of Maryland,

And asked to be discharged from the further consideration
of the same.

The Commtttee were discharged, and

On motion of Mr. Smith, of Baltimore city,

The said bill was referred to a select committee consisting
of Messrs. Smith, of Baltimore city, Morse, Marshall, McEl-
roy and Robb.

Mr. Corbin, Chairman of a select committee, reported fa-
vorably

The Senate bill entitled an Act to repeal section 36, Ar-
ticle 19, of the Public Local Laws, title Somerset county,
regulating the terms of the Circuit Court for Somerset county,
and to re-enact the same with amendments.

Which was read a first time and ordered to be engrossed
for a third reading.

Mr. Legg, Chairman of Select Committee on Oysters and
the Oyster Law, reported favorably

The Senate bill entitled an Act to prohibit the catching of
fish in nets by driving into the same by thrashing on the
water with poles or other instruments.

Said bill being upon a second reading,
