JOURNAL OF PROCEEDINGS (Mar. 13,

Mr, Pentland moved that the House do now take a recess
until & o'clock this evening.

Decrded in the negative.

Mr. Legg submitted the following amendment :

Page 21, section 10, 8th line, after the word Commission-
ers insert unless said deficiency in scholars lias occurred by
private or other schools drawing off the pupils from said
public schools.

Which was read.

The question being upon the adoption of the amendment,,

Mr. Legg demanded the yeas and nays.
