Sec. 6. And be it enacted, That the Commis-
sioners' Board of Washington County, be and they
are hereby authorized, subject to the provisions of
Section fifty-four, Article three of the Constitu-
tion of the State of Maryland, to subscribe for
such number of shares in the capital stock of the
Company hereby incorporated, that they may deem
necessary and proper to be subscribed for in the
name and for the benefit of Washington County,
and to be represented at all meetings of the stock-
holders of said Company by the County Commis-
sioners for the time being, or by such person or
persons as may be duly authorized by them.

Sec. 7. And be it enacted, That the said Com-
pany shall have the right to erect upon said road,
gate or gates, provided said gate or gates be not
erected within two miles from the limits of the
corporation of the town of Williamsport, and they
are hereby authorized to appoint such and so many
toll-gatherers as they shall think proper, who are
hereby empowered to collect and receive of and
from all and every person and persons using the
said road, the tolls and rates hereinafter mentioned,
and to stop any person riding, leading or driving
any horse, cattle, sheep, sulky, chaise, phaeton,
coach, coaches, wagon, sleigh, sled or other car-
riage of pleasure or burden from passing through
said gate or gates until they have respectively paid
the same, that is to say the following sums of
money, and so in proportion for any greater or
lesser number of sheep, hogs, or cattle, namely,
for every score of sheep, hogs or cattle, namely,

Erect gates.

for every score of sheep, fifteen cents ; for every
score of hogs, fifteen cents ; for every score of cat-
tle, thirty cents ; for every horse and his rider or
led horse, six cents ; for every sulky or chaise with
one horse and two wheels, fifteen cents ; for every
chariot coach, stage, wagon, phaeton or chaise with
two horses and four wheels, thirty cents ; for either
of the carriages last mentioned with four horees,
forty cents ; for every other vehicle of whatsoever
name it may be known, the like sums, according
to the number of wheels and horses drawing the
same ; for every cart wagon whose wheels dp not
exceed the breadth of four inches, fifteen cents
for each horse drawing the same ; for each cart or
wagon whose wheels shall exceed in breadth four
