elusive ; and by the law of eighteen hundred and
sixty-five, chapter one hundred and sixty, the an-
nual donations heretofore made to academies and
schools were made to constitute a High School
fund for each county ; and whereas the said sum
of eight hundred dollars have been annually paid
to each county in the State, with the exception of
Howard County, for the purpose of supporting a
High School, and in consequence of withholding
the sum from Howard County, the board of School
Commissioners have been unable to organize a
High School in said county, therefore

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly
of Maryland, That the Treasurer, upon the war-
rant of the Comptroller, be directed to pay to the
board of School Commissioners for Howard County
the sum of six thousand four hundred dollars, that
being the amount in arrear and due to the said
county by the State.

Sec. 2. And be it enacted, That the said board
of School Commissioners for Howard County shall
employ the said sum of money, for the purpose of
organizing and supporting a High School in said
county, and for no other purpose whatever.

Sec. 3. And be it enacted, That the sum of six
thousand four hundred dollars be, and the same
is hereby appropriated for the purpose aforesaid,
out of any money in the Treasury not otherwise
appropriated.

take effect from the date of its passage.
