Mr. Brown submitted the following amendment:

Section 8, line 4, strike out the word "sixty," and insert
the word "ninety."

Which was adopted.

The bill as amended was then read a second time and
ordered to be engrossed for a third reading.

A hill entitled an Act to authorize and direct the Comp-
troller of the Treasury to purchase certain lots of ground
herein described for the erection of a Mansion for the Gover-
nor of this State, and making appropriation for the payment
of the same.

Which was read a second time, and.

On motion of Mr. Syester,
Was referred to the Committee on Ways and Means.

The House then took up for consideration the next order of
the day, being the

Joint Resolution requesting the Governor to issue a com-
mission to the Hon. Wm. T. Hamilton, as Senator elect,

Said resolution being upon a third reading.
Pending the consideration of which,

The Speaker laid before the House the following communi-
cation of the Hon. Isaac D. Jones, Attorney General of Ma-
ryland, in response to an order of the House :

To the Honorable,

The House of Delegates of Maryland :

In obedience to the order of the House of the 3d inst., that
"the Attorney General of this State report to this House as
soon as possible, his opinion respecting the validity of the
election of Hon. William T. Hamilton as U. S. Senator, and
whether the said election was or was not, in conflict with the
Act of 1866, chapter 245, of the laws of the U. S., and Article
second, of the Declaration of Rights, of the present Constitu-
tion of Maryland, or any law of the State of Maryland, and.
whether, in his opinion, the Governor of this State is or not,
hound under the Act of Congress and the Constitution of this
State, to issue a certificate of election to the Hon. William
