fines, penalties, and forfeitures which may be in-
curred under the provisions of this Act, and the
supplements and amendments thereto relating to
the town of Centreville, and not otherwise pro-
vided for, shall he recovered before a Justice of
the Peace for Queen Anne's County, resident in

said town, in the name of the said Commissioners,
as small debts, and applied to the benefit or said
town; and in all such proceedings the Bailiff shall
have the same power, proceed in the same manner,
and have the same fees as Constables in cases of
small debts, and for Police duties shall be entitled
to the same tees as Constables in like cases, and
all process shall be returnable before some Justice
of the Peace for Queen Anne's County resident
in said town.

Power of

Bailiff.

Sec. 48. The Commissioners of the town of
Centreville may cause an assessment and valua-
tion of all the real and personal property in said
town, bank stock, bonds, notes and other evi-
dences of debt excepted, to be made between the
first day of April and the first day of May next,
and may levy on the property so assessed such
gums of money as they deem necessary for the
improvement of said town, but said levy, after the
first day of April, eighteen hundred and sixty-
eight, shall not exceed three hundred and fifty

dollars.

Commission-
ers may assess

Sec. 54. Be it enacted, That the Bailiff shall
attend the meetings of the said Commissioners,
and shall perform such services as said Commis-
sioners shall direct. He shall arrest and carry
before some Justice of the Peace for Queen Anne's
County resident in said town, to be dealt with as
hereinbefore provided, any person or persons found
breaking the Peace or disturbing the quiet and
order of said town, or violating any of the ordi-
nances made for securing the safety of the property
or the lives of the inhabitants of said town ; he
shall have power to summon any of the inhabitants
of said town to assist him in the discharge of his
duties when necessary.

Duty of Bali-
liff.

Sec. 2. And be it enacted, That this Act shall
take effect from the day of its passage.
