Said bill was then returned to the Senate.

The Speaker laid before the House the following report of
the Comptroller of the Treasury, in response to an order of
the House :

TREASURY DEPARTMENT,
COMPTROLLER'S OFFICE,

ANNAPOLIS, March 30th, 1868.

Hon. Win. A, Stewart, Speaker of the House of Delegates:

SIR :—In obedience to the order of your Honorable Body
of this date, I have the Honor to submit the following report:

It is impossible to ascertain from the files of this office the
number of slaves enlisted between April 1st, and November
1st, 1864.

A careful examination of the records here show the num-
ber of claims filed for enlisted slaves during this period to be
as follows, to wit: Owners' claims 79, of which number 43
were paid. Number of claims for slaves enlisted or drafted
91, of which number 27 were paid.

Comptroller.

Mr. Latrobe, Chairman of the Committee on Ways and
Means, reported unfavorably

The Senate bill entitled an Act to repeal an Act passed
January session, 1867, chapter 372, entitled an Act to fur-
ther extend the time and provisions of an Act passed Feb-
ruary 6th, chapter 15, and March 4th, 1864, chapter 373,
and the supplements thereto, relating to the payments of
bounties to volunteers and drafted men of this State.

The question being on concurring in the unfavorable re-
port of the Committee,

Mr. Bowlus demanded the previous question.
Which was sustained.
The question then being,
"Shall the previous question be now put?"
It was decided in the affirmative.

The question then recurring upon the adoption of the un-
favorable report of the Committee,

Mr. Richards demanded the yeas and nays.

The demand being sustained,
