Mr. Bond, of Baltimore city, submitted the following
amendment :
Strike out section 158, and insert the following in lieu
thereof:
SEC. 158. Every such body politic shall be chosen, and the
succession kept up, or changed by the male communicants,
contributing members, pew-holders and pew-owners of every
such congregation over twenty-one years of age, in such
manner and in such places as a majority of said persons shall
determine, or the said body politic shall be chosen, and the
succession kept up or changed according to the rules, regula-
tions and practice, that may have heretofore been adopted
and agreed upon, or shall be at the first time of electing
agreed upon and adopted by any particular church, society
congregation, for directing or managing their congregational
or temporal affairs, according as a majority of the communi-
cants, contributing male members, pew-holders and pew-
owners of said congregation may determine.
The question being upon concurring in the amendment,
Mr. Harden demanded the yeas and nays.
