CHAPTER 22.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland, That
from this time no sum or sums of money, or any other thing
whatever, won or lost, or pretended to be won or lost, by any
species of gaming or betting whatsoever", shall be demandable or
recoverable before any court of justice, or any justice of the
peace in the state of Maryland, or by any legal process, before

Proviso.

breed of Fish.

SEC. 1. Be it enacted, by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That it shall not be lawful for any person or persons to erect
pots, or other devices, in the river Susquehanna, for taking of
fish, whereby the slats in the bottom thereof shall be more than
one and an half inch wide, or any two of them shall be put or
placed closer together than three quarters of an inch, with the
square edges taken off, so as to round the top of the same, lo
prevent the destruction of small shad, nor shall any fishing dam
be erected that will impede the navigation of said river.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted. That if any person or persons
whatsoever, from and after the first day of May next, shall erect
any fishing dam so as to impede the navigation of the said river,
or erect fishing pots, or other devices whatsoever, for taking of
fish within the river aforesaid, wherein the bottom slats shall
be more than one and an half inches wide, or placed closer
together than three-quarters of an inch, or not rounded on the
top part, or shall be aiding, assisting or abetting, in building,
setting up, repairing or maintaining, such fish darn, or such fish-
ing pots, or any other devices whatsoever, for taking of fish in
