bestow, or directly or indirectly promise any gift or reward to
secure any person's vote or ballot at any such election, any such
person or candidate so offending, shall, on conviction thereof in
the county court of the county wherein such offence may be
committed, be fined at the discretion of the court, a sum not
exceeding five hundred dollars, and suffer such imprisonment
as the court may adjudge, not exceeding six months.

 

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That all fines and penalties created
and imposed by this act, shall be recovered in the Same manner
as fines and penalties are, by the act to which this is a supple-
ment.

CHAPTER 223.

AN ACT to continue in force the acts of Assembly which would expire
with the present session.

recovered.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland , That all
such acts, and parts of acts of assembly, as would expire with
the present session of assembly, be and the same are hereby
continued for one year from the passage of this act, and until
the end of the next session of assembly which shall happen
thereafter.

JUNE, 1812.—CHAPTER 1.

AN ACT authorizing the several Banks in this state to loan Money to
the United States.

SEC. 1. Be it enacted, by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That each of the several banking institutions within the state
of Maryland, be and hereby is authorized to loan to the United
States, any sum of money not exceeding in amount one-third
of its capital actually paid in.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That all loans hitherto made by
any banking institution of this state, to the United States, are
hereby declared to be as legal and valid, to all intents and pur-
poses, as if such loans had been made by and with the consent
of the legislature of this state.

CHAPTER 5.

AN ACT to authorize the Governor in certain cases to arm the Militia of
this state.

Be it enacted, by the General Assembly of Maryland, That
the governor of this state, be, and he is hereby authorized, at
his discretion to arm such portions of the militia of this state,
who from their particular situation may be most exposed to
invasion or insurrection, any law to the contrary notwith-
