George's county have become unequal in point of population and extent ;
for remedy whereof, .
'SEC, 2. Be it enacted, by the General Assembly of Maryland, That the
persons herein after named shall be and they are hereby appointed and au-
thorized, or a majority of them, or a majority of the survivors of them, in
each of the counties herein after; mentioned, commissioners, to review the
election districts in their counties respectively, and to alter and change the
lines and bounds of any of the said districts, which in their judgment ought
to be altered and changed, and also to alter the places of holding the elec-
tions in such districts respectively, if necessary, carefully making the
several districts as nearly equal as possible, having regard to population,
extent, and the convenience of the voters, and also to make choice of a
place in each district at which the elections shall be held, as nearly central
as shall be practicable, having regard to the circumstances aforesaid, and
the accommodation of persons attendant upon such elections ; and the said
commissioners shall, on or before the fifteenth day of June next, deliver to
the clerk of the county court of their respective counties a description, in
writing, under their hands and seals, specifying plainly the boundaries and
number of each district which shall be altered and changed under this act,
and also the place in each district where the election for such districts shall
be hereafter held, and the said clerk shall record the same in the records of
the county.'
The number of districts originally laid off by these commissioners, has
been enlarged, and the places of holding the elections therein, have been
frequently changed. There are at present in Anne Arundel county, seven
election districts; Allegany, nine; Baltimore county, thirteen; Calvert,
three; Caroline, three; Carroll, nine; Cecil, five; Charles, four; Dorches-
ter, eight; Frederick, fourteen; Harford, five; Kent, three; Montgomery,
five ; Prince George's, six ; Queen Anne's, five ; Saint Mary's, five ; So-
merset, eleven; Talbot, four; Washington, eight; Worcester, seven;
Baltimore city has twelve wards.
The several Jaws producing these changes, will be distributed to their
appropriate counties, in the subdivision of 'Public Local Law,' under an
impression that such an arrangement will be most conducive to a speedy
reference to their several provisions.

SEC. 10. And be it enacted, That the judges aforesaid shall
appoint two clerks, being above the age of twenty-one years, to
enter the names of the voters, separately and plainly, on the
books provided for that purpose, and if any clerk, so appointed,
shall neglect or refuse to act, he shall forfeit and pay the sum
of ten dollars.

SEC. 11. And be it enacted, That every judge of an election,
before he proceeds to take or receive any vote, shall take the
following oath, or affirmation, to wit : * I, A. B., do swear, or
affirm, that I will permit all persons to vote who shall offer to
poll at the election now to be held for —— county, or ——
city, who in my judgment shall, according to the directions
contained in this law, and the constitution and form of govern-
ment, be entitled to poll at the same election, and that I will
not permit any person to poll at the same election who is not
in my judgment qualified to vote as aforesaid, and will ift all
