This law has lost much of its general character. Very many acts have
passed substituting 'Commissioners,' to be elected by the people of the
several counties, and transferring to them the jurisdiction conferred on the
levy courts. A list of the counties, which have commissioners thus substi-
tuted, cannot be here noted, inasmuch as numerous laws were passed on
this subject, at the last session, which have not yet been published. They
will, (under the presumption that they will be published before this work
is completed,) be distributed to the counties to which they appropriately
refer, under the subdivision of 'Public Local Law.' The profession are
referred to the Index, word 'Levy Court,' where the numerous duties of
this court will be found digested.
